Topic > Analysis of the book The Fault in Our Stars - 1033

Green, John. THE FAULT in OUR STARS. New York: Dutton Books, 2012. Print. The fictional genre of The Fault in Our Stars is realistic fiction. It deals with modern adolescent problems and difficulties related to cancer. The events that happen in this book, such as people battling cancer, could actually happen in real life. The cover of The Fault in Our Stars has a drawing of two clouds, a black one on top of a white one. I think the black cloud mainly represents the tragedy going on in the book. The tragedy is that Hazel and Augustus are battling cancer. The white cloud most likely represents the good things in the story, such as the love that Hazel and Augustus have for each other, which makes their lives better and helps them in their fight against cancer. There is also a short review from a critic on the cover which is most likely there to let the reader know that it is a good book. An alternative title I would choose to replace this book would be Love Conquers All. When Hazel Grace Lancaster, a teenager dealing with cancer, meets Augustus Waters, the two fall in love and their lives change. Before they met, Hazel was not very happy and did not live long. When they fall in love and are together all the time, they are both happier and start living more, which helps her fight against cancer. This is why I think the title, Love Conquers All, would be a better title than the original. The most important central idea of this book is that love can overcome anything. The entire book mainly focuses on the love of two teenagers battling cancer. Their love for each other helps keep their minds off the bad things they are facing and helps them live life to the fullest. Before… halfway through the paper… even if Hazel couldn't answer him right away, the joy she felt would eventually lead her to build the relationship with Augustus. John Green's quote in The Fault in Our Stars says, "You don't get to choose whether you get hurt in this world...but you have a say in who hurts you." This piece of text from the book is very meaningful to me because it is something I can identify with. It tells me that no matter what, sometimes I will get hurt in this world, but only I am in control of who hurts me and who doesn't. One aspect of this book that would make me recommend it to others is that John Green has put many great quotes in this book that anyone can relate to. I really liked the different quotes in the book and the fact that they concern aspects of life. They are so awesome you won't be able to get them out of your mind.
