It is my intention to use the knowledge gained, specific to these disciplines, for the benefit of those seeking assistance through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs ("VA") for the treatment of post-combat problems traumatic stress disorder (“PTSD”). While I am an active duty military employee and have considerable knowledge of a population in the military culture affected by PTSD, which is advantageous in terms of experience, this factor alone does not allow for preference in employment in this particular field. The institutional means to achieve this goal requires and involves four years of undergraduate study, two years in a master's program, and an additional five-plus years of doctoral study. This is only the first of a three-part cultural objective, necessary to start the process of effective participation and employment realization in this field. The first part of this goal would be to obtain a bachelor's degree, proceed to a master's degree, begin employment, and finally, while employed, begin doctoral studies. In addition to the significant overall effort an average student must expend in pursuing such educational goals, there is also a significant financial responsibility placed on my family. Acceptance as a credible authority in this field requires this long period of development training and the acquisition of collective education and experience to be considered effective and respected as a contributor or provider of assistance in this field.
