Question 1: Qualities of a Professional Nurse According to Mason, Isaacs, and Colby (2011), providing care in the nursing field requires expertise, critical thinking, and sound clinical judgment, skill to combine all dimensions of health and much more. Professional nurses should therefore possess a number of attributes that are important in providing care in healthcare institutions. A nurse should possess exemplary communication skills. A nurse should follow instructions easily and clearly explain patients' health conditions to their family. A nurse should also anticipate a patient's needs (Jacksonville University School of Nursing 2014). Watching people suffer and die every day can harden a nurse's feelings. The nurse should have exceptional compassion and empathy to remain a great nurse. The nurse should empathize with the patient and families in case of loss. A nurse does not work in isolation but works with other nurses, doctors and other staff in the healthcare facility. The nurse should have exceptional interpersonal skills. With good interpersonal skills, the nurse will willingly handle his patients even when he has some friction with the rest of the staff (Sivamalai 2008). Duty can sometimes mean working longer hours, working double shifts which requires flexibility in a nurse. At work, a nurse is expected to lift patients and other heavy objects. A nurse should practice healthy eating habits, exercise and lead an overall healthy lifestyle. By doing so, the nurse will be able to withstand physical tension and therefore work longer and more efficiently. A nurse should have respect for people and the rules that govern a nurse's professional conduct. Respect will reduce cases of hostility between the nurse and the hospital staff (S...... half of the document ......'.
