Topic > Energy Demand: Alternative Energy Resources - 1381

Is it possible to meet the growing demand for energy safely and efficiently? My speech today is about energy, specifically energy demand. What is energy? In physics, energy is defined as the capacity to do work. This ability is very important for our daily lives, for business, for education and even for national security. This is why it is so important for the world to meet the growing demand for energy. According to Global Future studies and research, today there are 1.3 billion people living without electricity, or 20% of the total population, and it is expected that 2 billion people will be added to the world population between now and 2050. Furthermore, countries such as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, Indonesia, China, South Africa), in a rapidly growing economic situation, give rise to fears that the world may not be able to meet the growth in energy demand. This was demonstrated by the International Energy Agency's statement “The center of gravity of global energy demand shifts decisively towards emerging economies: they account for more than 90% of net energy demand growth until 2035.” (IEA) This has led us to the conclusion that it is a fact that the world will face complex challenges in the energy sector, especially developing countries which experiencing population expansion, this will require additional billions of inhabitants and furthermore, as the country develops its standard of living will improve, which will further aggravate the problem of lack of energy demands. In addition to this, conventional oil and gas supplies are meanwhile expected to decline in the near future (OECD). Addressing these challenges may require changes in fundamental issues such as changing patterns of energy production, consumption, policies and production.
