Topic > Oh My God: History of Mythology and Its Influences Today

Oh My GodMythology is defined as the collection or study of myths. As stated by David Abraham, since the beginning of time humanity has always wanted to know the answer to how we got here or what the meaning of life is. Early humanity began to create different stories or myths about how it all began and how to explain things in nature like thunder or fire. Many cultures and religions were created because of these questions which were passed down from generation to generation. Many wars started due to different religions and beliefs. Abraham states that myths were the beginning of literature, art and religion and still have a profound impact on our daily lives. When most people think of mythology, they think of Greek and Roman mythology perhaps more than any other mythological belief. This was a time when Zeus and Jupiter ruled and were believed to be the kings of the gods. These beliefs were the same thing with some small differences such as changing the names of the gods. Monuments were built in honor of the gods. Cult temples were built to pray to their gods. Some monuments and temples still exist today and are studied and even influence the design of some buildings. Greece was the first culture to believe in these gods before they were overthrown by the Roman Empire, who heard these stories of gods like Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades. Rome began to tell these stories by changing the names and making this belief its own. The Roman Empire may not have been the first to worship these gods, but they have had the greatest impact on today's society. With the rise of the Roman Empire they began to be influenced by a new type of religion, one that the Greek people had revered for many years. Soon the Roman Empire would have......the center of the card......the Roman god Mars. We use Cupid, the god of love, as a symbol of Valentine's Day. Some words used a lot in today's society such as luck derive from the Roman goddess Fortuna who was the goddess of fortune. Many films, books and popular traditions are in many ways influenced by mythology. One of the films of the Disney company was the story of Hercules, the ancient mythological warrior, son of Jupiter. The film grossed $252,712,101 in 1997. Today, some of our buildings are even influenced by the designs of temples once built to worship mythical gods and goddesses. Any religion revered today began as a myth or story about how we got here. This has caused many wars and no one knows which one is right or if any of them are right, but we continue to worship and pray to the god or gods we believe in and it helps to find the answers to all the questions we have..
