Those who have a higher social status have a distinct advantage because they have access to many resources that go beyond basic human needs. For example, those who have more money have access to education. Those who don't earn much can't afford to send their children to school and even if they have school supplies nearby, boys and girls are forced to work to help the family survive. Education is essential for the development of third world countries and represents a huge obstacle to the development and prosperity of countries technologically, educationally and politically. If the poor had more access to education, they would have more opportunities to earn more money and improve their social status.
