This turns into a cycle of weight loss and weight gain, which can increase “the risk of degenerative diseases such as obesity, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension and cancer” (Vaghefi par.7). These diseases come into the picture due to the cycle. Fad diets promote weight loss, but not fat loss. When your goal weight is reached and the diet is stopped, the weight is put back on, which leads to you putting more fat into your body than you lose and gaining weight more quickly. When losing weight, the best way to avoid developing these serious health problems is to “not believe or follow any of the trendy diets that promise quick and easy weight loss, because there is no such thing” (Vaghefi par. 8). Healthy and safe weight loss happens gradually, with patience, exercise and a balanced diet. Fad diets are dangerous and should not be used as they can cause serious harm to your health
