Companies form their organizational values in light of the value of their employees. From a company's organizational values comes a universal code of conduct that is tested and revised until it successfully resolves situations that demonstrate solid ethics. Implementing Values and Ethics in Globalized Business The business world of today is very different from the business world of the early years in our country as well as the world. In the early years, little attention was paid to employees: children worked long hours, women worked in unsafe conditions, and the like. Today, however, the world can witness a drastic change: children under 18 can only work a certain number of hours a week, in every company there are health and safety codes. And these are just the tip of the iceberg of employee-friendly changes that have occurred over the last 100 years. People use words like values and ethics to describe companies' policies and actions in how they treat their employees, especially globally. Personal Values Personal values, just like cultural values, must be considered when a company sets its policies. Personal values are closely linked to cultural values and must be seen as such by a company. In general, if a company is respectful of the cultural values of its employees, it will also be respectful of the personal values of its employees. Although personal values are simply personal, many personal values are shared in the same way that cultural values are shared. Companies strive to be sensitive to people's personal values through surveys and comment cards. They also show sensitivity to personal values by giving management the freedom to make exceptions for their group of employees as they get to know each employee personally. Companies now make an effort to know their employees. Cultural Values Cultural values are one of the values that must be considered by a company developing or modifying its policies. The values held by employees, the values of their group, are what companies can struggle with nowadays, especially when expanding globally. Companies need to take people's values into consideration when setting policies and working hours, it could be the religious beliefs of a group of people if they require them to go to church on Sunday morning or not eat while the sun is high for a whole month.
