Topic > Decreasing participation in swimming in Australian competitions...

With beautiful Australian beaches, a well-known swimming culture and gold medals won at the Olympics; it is expected to have a high participation rate in swimming events. However over the last three years the swimming carnival participation rate has dropped by 10% within Wavell SHS, it seems to question where swimming actually stands in the future. But let's focus more on the root cause of this, Figueroa's framework focuses on five levels of equity and personal participation towards a sport, specifically swimming. To visualize such an issue on a well-known topic, let's examine the continuing misconceptions about teenagers and their body image, low self-esteem in modern society, and the influence of society, culture and media on teenagers. And while it's a universal problem, faced not only in sports but in life in general, let's take a look at where most teenagers, like me, begin to progress into the early stages of low self-esteem, thus creating the problem of sports participation . and swimming carnivals. High school, a place where most talent is revealed and where opportunities are given/taken, a place that shapes young Australians' views towards sport and the ongoing process of producing young Australian athletes. However, with the misconception that young adolescents have of what an athlete “looks like,” they begin to compare their self-image to that portrayed in the media, which is the typical skinny, skinny, and handsome/cute model. This causes a low level of self-confidence within an individual as this is focused on the individual level. The cultural level of Figueroa's structure plays an important role in the education of an individual in society. With the typical stereotypes of Wavell culture continuing to...... middle of paper ...... eve that this method would work because, like Netball and Rugby League's programs of excellence, it would create a culture and personal history of the group within the school and, with a little work, also within society. In conclusion, the decrease in participation in swimming is deeply rooted in Wavell State High and society due to the diverse upbringing of most cultures within the school and the low self-confidence of children. most students and their self-image, this only increases the decline in participation rates. However, if, as stated, a culture was created within the school and society through the creation of a swimming excellence program and the addition of a small portion of fixer uppers, in my opinion there would be an increase in participation rate in swimming across cultures and both HPE classes and the Swim Carnival.
