Christopher Boone is a 15-year-old young adult male of British descent. Christopher describes himself as a machine, we have accounts of him saying “Sometimes I think of my mind as a machine” (Haddon 7). Christopher currently lives with his mother, who asked to remain anonymous, and his father, Edward Boone. Christopher is from Swindon, UK, where he was born and raised, until his parents' divorce when his mother moved in with Roger Shears (Christopher's former neighbor and ex-husband of his father's ex-girlfriend). Christopher Boone suffers from many behavioral/emotional problems such as being irritable, unstable and not talking to people for a long time. He also has problems such as not eating or drinking for long periods of time and refusing to be touched. Christopher is currently at secondary school, enrolled in A-level maths. Christopher's father, Ed Boone, is known for killing his neighbor's dog, Wellington. On page 1, (at midnight) Christopher walks into his neighbor's yard after looking out the window and seeing Wellington stabbed with a pitchfork. Christopher says "I patted Wellington and wondered who killed him and why." Christopher cared deeply about Wellington and loved dogs. We have the hypothesis that Christopher had abandonment problems after his mother left. Christopher's trust in his father waned, but after he bought Christopher his puppy, he began to regain Christopher's trust ("he bent down, put his hands in the box, and pulled out a little sandy-colored dog") (Haddon 219). Christopher also tends to perform poorly in social situations/school settings. Some examples would be; not interacting with other children, being bullied, and acting aggressively when touched.
