This film managed to capture its world and all the horror and beauty within it, while changing a few things to keep up with today's audiences. Hrothgar transforms from a strong, wise, and faithful husband to a loud, drunken womanizer who fornicates with monsters to create more horrors. Beowulf transforms from an incorruptible hero with unswerving loyalty to his king to a man willing to put aside his loyalty in exchange for the promise of kingship and power. Monsters, like Grendel, are also changed, so that they can be seen in a light that makes them seem human and relatable. Grendel himself is transformed from a monster who only wants the destruction of Hrothgar's men into a human-monster hybrid who seeks affection and feels shame and pain. Grendel's mother is transformed from a hideous and hideous witch into a beautiful seductress who seduces Beowulf and Hrothgar with promises of power to give birth to two powerful sons. The Dragon is changed to be Beowulf's son, but retains the same destructive fury that leads to the death of his father and many of his people. Along with the change in their personality, their fate has also changed to make it more relatable. Beowulf dies after fighting the dragon alone, at the cost of removing his arm. Hrothgar names Beowulf his heir and kills himself by throwing himself into the sea. Grendel and the Dragon both die
