Charlie's emergency room is a level one trauma center, one of only eight in the state of Michigan. As a certified level one trauma center, its hospital receives the most critical patients with life-threatening injuries. The emergency room as a whole can accommodate up to one hundred patients at a time. Charlie has been a nurse manager at the Detroit Center of Medicine for thirteen years. He graduated from Wayne State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He continued to work as a registered nurse at the Detroit Center of Medicine for five years. She is certified as a TNCC nurse which is certification in trauma medicine. After five years of working in the emergency department, earning various departmental awards including nurse of the year, Charlie was interviewed and given the role of nurse manager. Charlie's work includes various forms of communication including; write reports, evaluate statistics, research new methods of primary and secondary nursing practice, interview employees, listen to speakers, and read new legal and scientific literature on nursing. The job of a nurse manager requires creative and critical responses in addressing three typical communication scenarios: information problems, persuasion problems, and ethical/legal problems.
