Topic > Legalization of euthanasia - 1377

What to do when the end is near and suffering and pain are the only way forward? In America their need could be responded to as "oh no, poor person, I hope they get better", what if they don't get better? What if they just hoped that death would end their suffering? Euthanasia or doctor-assisted suicide would do just that. However, physician-assisted suicide is illegal in America being legal only in Oregon, Washington, Montana, and Vermont. In America, life is highly valued and praised. In America, health is one of the most important fields and new medicines and treatments are constantly being invented. However; when we talk about life and how important it is, we must not forget the different components of a complete life. Life is made of physical, physiological and spiritual well-being. Keeping someone alive against their will is denying them their right to peace and forcing them to suffer a long period of needless misery. An issue to be addressed in deciding whether euthanasia should be legalized or not is the quality of palliative care and patient suffering at the end of life. Another question is the validity of the Hippocratic Oath; Can we trust a doctor anymore? Does the Hippocratic Oath really exist to provide patients with the best care they can get from their doctors? Finally there is the right to die, the debate on whether or not the patient has the right to decide about death. So, should someone who has been sentenced to death continue to live and suffer until the end of their days? The fact that euthanasia is illegal and is being kept illegal supports this idea. Euthanasia should be legalized; would eliminate the pain and suffering of many people suffering from terminal illnesses....... middle of document ......ightingale Alliance, nd Web. November 7, 2013.
