With front page news, constantly being a shooter or armed suspect targeting campuses, feeling safe at school shouldn't be an option, it should be a priority. As a future teacher, I am committed to protecting my students, even if it means having a gun in the classroom. In addition to being a teacher assistant every day, being prepared for certain situations is vital. But there are no protocols in place in the event of an emergency involving an armed attacker. Looking back at Columbine High School, would a gun have stopped those teenagers? A gun could have easily jammed to allow police officers to arrive. Teachers and school officials could have been armed and prevented deaths and injuries. A gun is an alternative for schools instead of hiding in the corner of a classroom. New protocols need to be put in place to make schools a safer place. This would consist of having firearms in every classroom and new safety plans. These safety plans would include exit routes and different plans for different
