Jorge Chavez is considered in Peru, the country where I was born, a hero for being the first man to attempt to fly across the Alps. Even though he failed to reach the his goal because his Blériot Therefore, in the present article, I intend to highlight Chavez's aeronautical achievements and, similarly, explain how he became fascinated with aviation.Jorge Chavez, a Peruvian born in ParisJorge Chavez Dartnell was born on June 13, 1887 in Paris, France. His parents, Don Manuel Chávez and Maria Rosa Moreyra Dartnell y Guisse, were forced to emigrate to Europe due to the war fought in 1879 between Chile and Peru. Chavez was not born in Peru, but his parents agreed to register him at the Peruvian consulate in Paris as a foreign-born Peruvian citizen. “Yo soy Peruano,” he said to those who asked him his nationality: “I am Peruvian.” Since childhood, Chavez excelled as an athlete and, at the same time, proved to be a responsible and disciplined person. After finishing high school, he decided to specialize in Engineering and therefore enrolled at the Violetta School in Paris. Furthermore, the first powered flight of the Brazilian Santos Dumont on October 23, 1906 aroused in Jorge Chavez the desire not only to produce but also to fly airplanes. Since his interest in aviation was increasingly evident, as soon as he graduated he went to Reims, a city in the north-east of France, to participate in the “Grande Semaine d'Aviation de la Champagne”, the first international aviation meeting in history . This was a great opportunity for Chávez to become friends with the French aviator Louis Paulhan who had previously participated in... center of paper... aviation history. His courage will always be an example to those involved in aviation. In my case, I confess that before starting the work I wondered why Jorge Chávez is so recognized in my country. Now I feel satisfied that I was able to learn more about his life and accomplishments and that I helped spread his life story.
