Impact of Computers on My Chosen Profession My chosen profession that I will be going to college for is Computer Information Systems. I'm not entirely sure what exact job title I'd like to get from this. I know I would like to be in charge of a company's technology, being responsible for keeping the systems running, training employees on how to use the programs, and deciding which new programs would be best for the company. Computers have had a very positive effect on this aspect. For inventory tasks, computers allow the company to immediately know when new products are available by searching the Internet. A lot of valuable information about the product is provided, such as quality, price and so on. The company can quickly and easily purchase inventory over the Internet and track it as it is shipped. Once the company receives its inventory, it sells it individually to its customers. Many companies have websites that allow the consumer to go to the company's website and do similar to what the company did to obtain inventory. They can view product information, see the latest products and quickly order online. The customer is provided with an order confirmation number that allows them to check the status of their purchase as it ships and see if there are any delays due to back orders or other issues. IBM will soon market middleware that will help improve these aspects of the business. The middleware will allow a company to manage existing product information across a variety of systems. The software will allow product attributes and locations to be shared more accurately. Many companies continue to provide inaccurate information about their products due to insufficient technology. This middleware will help solve this business problem by enabling companies to improve their performance and customer service. This will have a very positive effect on businesses (Beth Bacheldor-InformationWeek.com). Many companies, such as health insurers, pay for outsourcing services to manage their servers and help with any problems and questions about the systems. Now companies are demanding much more from their outsourcers.
