As the world grows and changes, society becomes more integrated. It is, indisputably, a more connected world. Division still occurs at smaller levels, especially between classes and ethnicities. Classes and ethnicities play specific divisive roles. Understanding what these roles are, as well as how and why they form, can help you better understand groups. Despite the debates over immigration, it is still true that myriad ethnic groups exist in the United States. These groups develop their own communities, services and organizations specific to their ethnicity. An example is the existence of Chinatowns, present in many large cities. A Chinatown is important because it allows established and incoming Chinese immigrants to have a welcoming and familiar place. They can search for all the services available to Americans, but in their original language and culture. Seeking work, medical care, and financial aid can be intimidating, but having all of these services concentrated in an area similar to your home country can make it more possible (Ember & Ember, 2007, p.215). Positive divisive roles do not they occur only within ethnic groups, but also within classes. These class divisions allow for support from like-minded individuals. Situations that arise due to class division include informal credit associations, clubs, and charitable groups (Ember & Ember, 2007, p. 218). Groups are often linked to employment. Although their explicit purpose is not to create class divisions, they tend to develop as such. They can offer money and professional support. Specific military-related nonprofit organizations are good examples of class-division groups. Many veterans returning home are... middle of paper... as power is passed down. It is possible for an unsuitable leader to be granted unjustified authority. State-level politics can be executed improperly if political parties do not have the interests of their communities at heart. Raising taxes and drafting men for war are hugely impactful responsibilities and must be viewed as such. The power and authority that comes with political leadership is an important responsibility. It cannot be taken lightly. A leader must also be able to lead his people in whatever capacity necessary. Having power and authority provides the opportunity for corruption, so it is important that those in power are fair and objective. It is when these positions are not managed well that corruption occurs. This is why understanding political organizations at all levels is critical to the proper functioning of society.
